The HELPsource&trade Speech / Language Pathologist

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Speech/Language Pathologist evaluates and treats patients, under orders from the referring physician, through the use of a variety of therapeutic procedures, to restore function, increase communication and swallowing skills. The Speech Language/Pathologist functions in accordance with their State Practice Act

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reviews available information and evaluates impact on treatments.
  • Performs a thorough functional assessment in accordance with established protocol and practice guide lines
  • Develops and implements an individualized treatment plan, appropriate to age and needs of the patient, and containing achievable functional goals.
  • Performs treatments as ordered in a safe, timely manner, in accordance protocol and practice guidelines.
  • Maintains patient's files as outlined in procedure manual.
  • Communicates with physicians, other health care workers, and caregivers, as needed, regarding patient progress, problems and plans.
  • Orients patients to treatment procedures appropriate to their age and needs.
  • Establish and instruct patients and caregivers in home program.
  • Assists in referral process when patient requires additional rehabilitation after discharge.
  • Participates in peer review and quality improvement process, as directed.
  • Accesses continuing education appropriate to discipline.
  • Completes all annual mandatory training and certification requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Be a graduate of an ASHA approved and accredited college with a masters degree in Speech/Language Pathology
  • Certificate of Clinical Competency in Speech Language/Pathology
  • Current license in the state of practice
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated competency in applying the principles, methods and equipment used in speech therapy
  • Ability to access patient needs and develop and implement a comprehensive plan of care
  • Ability to function as a member of an integrated healthcare work team
